SRI LANKA MUAY THAI FEDERATION NATIONAL EVENT - 2023
The Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium was the battleground for a thrilling Muay Thai national event that unfolded over four action-packed days, starting at 3:00 p.m. on November 30, 2023. This marked the eagerly awaited return of the event after a hiatus since 2020. The arena was filled and covered by a formidable group of 600 contestants who fiercely battled each other, leaving spectators in awe of their skills and determination. The echoes of their intense clashes will surely resonate as a memorable chapter in the history of Muay Thai events at Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.
COMPANY
The facility was a brainchild of V.A. Sugathadasa, the former Mayor of Colombo Municipal Council and the first Minister of Sports in Sri Lanka and construction of the Sugathadasa Outdoor Stadium commenced on January 16, 1957 and completed on December 16, 1962. Subsequent to various other development initiatives, the Sugathadasa National Sports Complex was entrusted to the Ministry of Sports as a trust fund with effect from 1st of February 1995 and the Act No. 17 of 1999 was submitted to the Parliament of Sri Lanka on 20th April 1999 for incorporating it as the Sugathadasa National Sports Complex.
